Unit 2-Cells, Tissues And Organs Flashcards
Unicellular organisms and examples.
Single-called organisms are composed of only one cell.
⚫️Euglena-Plant/animal like features. Flagellum for swimming. Chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
⚫️Amobea- Moves by changing its body. Feed by flowing around food, process called phagocytosis.
Levels of cellular organisation in multicellular organisms:
Cells➡️Tissues➡️Organs➡️Systems➡️Organism
Examples of specialised cells in multicellular organisms.
⚫️ Nerve Cell [Neurone] - Specialised 2 carry electrical impulses. Insulating material aid impulse.
⚫️Red Blood Cell- Bioncave disc shaped 4 large surface area for gas exchange. Haemoglobin in cytoplasm- for oxygen transport.
⚫️Cilated Epithelial- Cilia push mucus out lungs. Tiny “hairs” waft back and forth lining air passages.
What is a tissue?
A tissue is a group of specialised cells working together for a particular function.
Examples of Tissues.
⚫️ Muscular- Contracts,bringing about movement.
⚫️ Glandular- Produces substances such as enzymes and hormones.
⚫️ Epithelial- Cover the internal and external surfaces and cavities of the body.
What is an organ?
An organ is a group of tissues working together for a particular function.
Examples of Organ systems.
⚫️Digestive- Breaks down food to be absorbed eg. Stomach,Salivary glands and intestines.
⚫️Urinary-Eliminates waste from body in urine eg. Kidney, bladder.
⚫️Circulatory-Transports oxygen and water to body cells eg. Heart and Pulmonary vein
