Q

How do you test for the presence of an alkene

A

Add bromine water to the solution you are testing, if alkene is present the colour will change from orange to colourless

Q

What is the most stable form of carbocation

A

Tertiary carbocation is the more stable than a primary and secondary carbocation. This is due to the positive inductive effect of the alkyl groups pushing electrons on to the C+ so it is more likely to be attacked by an electrophile.
