Unit 2 Flashcards
Why do designers need to consider the size of the resolution for the images they are using?
Quality of Images (pixels or megapixels) – Quality will be needed to be high in a photography. The cost of producting images (usally) increases as the quality of the picture (the megapixel). The brightness and sharpness increases as there is more mexapixels. The storage is another issue with the pictures. A cookery magazine/website wouldn’t need a high quality image. This means that the lower quality camera would the better suited as less storage is needed.
What is the effect of compression on image data?
Compression is used to reduce the size of a file.
Compression can be lossless or lossy.
What are the types of compressed image files? Explain them.
PNG is a lossless compression type. It is often used where the graphic might be changed by another person,
JPEG is often used for digital camera images because it has a fairly small file size for the quality that it displays. JPEG is a lossy format,
GIF compresses images to a maximum 8-bit colour depth, making it unsuitable for high-quality photographs. GIF is often used where transparency is needed on the graphic. GIF can also be used to store simple animated images.
What is lossy?
Lossy compression permanently removes the original quality.
What is lossiness?
Lossless compression means that as the file size is compressed, the picture quality remains the same - it does not get worse and can be returned to origional quality.
What are Multi-Functional Devices?
Multi-Functional Devices: Devices that perform multiple function devices.
What are Mobile Devices?
Mobile Devices: A device that can perform several things such as a smartphone. It has camera and can use apps on it.
What are servers?
Servers: Computer devices that run to a network that work for other devices.
What is RJ45?
RJ45: This is the standard for network ethernet cable plugs and the sockets or ports that the cable uses to connect network devices together to the internet.
What is input? Give the definition and 3 examples.
Input means what is put in.
Examples are: Keyboard, Microphone and Camera .
What is Output? Give the definition and 3 examples.
Output means the result.
Examples are: Screens, Projectors and Motors.
What is storage? Give the definition and 3 examples.
Storage means memory.
Examples are: USB Flash Drives, Magnetic Tape Drive and Hard Drives
What are Modular smartphones?
A smartphone that contains different components and features that can be changed by the user to change the functionality of the device (e.g. LG G5, Project Ara).
What is wearable computers?
portable technology systems worn by the user.
What are Single board computers?
This is a small, inexpensive computers designed for development projects and use in education.
