Impression Formation
Socialization
Refers to the process through which an individual learns how to act according to the rules and expectations of a particular culture
Agents of Socialization
Groups that influence how s/o is going to be as they are growing up
Play Stage
Stage in development of the self where the child can take on a role, but only from the perspective of one person at a time
Game Stage
Stage in development of the self where the child can take on roles of a group of community and conform their behavior to the broad societal expectations
Impression Formation
The process by which we define others based on observable cues
Impression Management
The act of presenting a favorable image of oneself: 1. Routine, 2. Relationship

Front Stage
Area of social interaction where people perform and work to maintain appropriate impressions
Backstage
Area of social interaction away from the audience where people can: 1. Rehearse, 2. Rehash, 3. Violate
Embarrassment
A spontaneous feeling we experience when the identity we are presenting suddenly and unexpectedly is discredited or challenged in front of others
Aligning Action
Actions enacted by the transgressor to restore tainted identity
Double Consciousness
A term coined by W.E.B Dubois used to describe an individual whose ID is divided
Family Household
Composed of one or more people who occupy the same “housing unit”
Endogamy
Romantic and/or sexual relations including marriage within one’s social group
Exogamy
Romantic and/or sexual relations including marriage formed outside of one’s social group
