Unit 2 5:1 Organizing The Elements Flashcards
How did he arrange the elements in the periodic table
- in rows by increasing atomic mass
- left doves in his table to make the pattern fit
He was able to predict new elements, he had the spaces for elements not yet discovered
How are elements arranged in the modern periodic table?
Elements by atomic number. When they are arranged this way, elects that have similar properties appear at regular intervals.
As scientists learned more they improved upon Mendeleev’s table
Periodic law
The law that states that the repeating chemical and physical properties of elements change periodically with the atomic numbers of the elements
Period
A horizontal row of elements in the period table.
-Elements become less metallic across each period
Group
A vertical consume of elements int he period table
-elements in a group share chemical properties
Who arranged the elements in the periodic table?
Mendeleev
