Unit 2 Flashcards
What makes a saturated hydrocarbon different to an unsaturated hydrocarbon?
Saturated hydrocarbons have singe bonds whilst unsaturated carbons have a double bond
What is a hydrocarbon?
Hydrocarbons are compounds that contain carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms only.
What are the three different types of formula used to represent hydrocarbons?
Molecular formula
Full Structural formula
Shortened structural formula
Define a homologous series.
A homologous series is a series of compounds with similar chemical properties which can be represented by a general formula.
Is a cycloalkane a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon?
Saturated, it contains only single bonds.
What is an isomer?
Isomers are compounds with the same molecular formula but different structural formula.
What formula can be used to calculate the energy of a fuel?
Eh = cm/\T
What is an exothermic reaction?
An exothermic reaction is a reaction in which energy is released.
What is an endothermic reaction?
An endothermic reaction is a reaction in which energy is taken in.
What is the general formula for the Alkanes?
CnH2n+2
What is the general formula for the Alkenes?
CnH2n
