Suspect
Person thought to be capable of committing a crime
Accomplice
Person associated with someone who was suspected of committing
Alibi
A statement that a suspect makes to identify where they were at the time of the crime
Testimonial evidence
Evidence that includes oral or written statements given to police as court testimony by people who witnessed an event
Physical evidence
Evidence that refers to any material items that would be present at the crime scene, on the victims or found in suspect possession
Trace evidence
Physical evidence that is found in small but measurable amounts (hair, fingers, or skin cells).
Direct evidence
First hand observation (eyewitness account, videos, confessions)
Circumstantial evidence
Indirect evidence that can be used to imply a fact but does not directly prove it. (finding a suspects gun at a crime scene)
Class evidence
Traist that are shared by similar persons or objects, group. Never a single source (blood type, cotton fibers)
Individual evidence
Traits that are unique to a particular person or object within a class, trace back to one person (DNA, Fingerprints)
What is the crime scene team
Police officers, CSI units, Distirct Attorney, Medical Examiner, Specialists, Detectives
Seven S’s of crime scene investigation
1) secure the scene, 2) seperate the witness, 3) scan the scene, 4) see the scene, 5) sketch the scene, 6) search for evidence, 7) secure and collect evidence
