executive role and function
role = responsible for implementing and enforcing laws. Ruled by the head of state, president, or pm
function = involved in the administration of public policies, implementation of laws, national security, foreign affairs, and overall governance of the country.
Features of the executive
- referred to as the government
- includes the leaders; the monarch, pm, civil service, police
- office of pm originally named as the first lord of treasury
how is pm appointed?
- not a matter of law but a convention
- pm is usually leader of majority party in house of commons, appointed by the monarchparliamentary accountabilit
parliamentary accountability
each minister is responsible and must answer to parliaments for their own acts and for civil servant in their departments.

types of legislation in england and wales
primary legislation: acts of parliament there are two categories - private personal act, public general act
secondary or delegated legislation: laws created by ministers under powers given to them by act of parliament
advantages + disadvantages of using secondary legislation
- advantages: saves time, produced with specialist knowledge, control exercised by parliament
- disadvantages : lack of oversight, lack of publicity, risk of sub-delegation

- examining the parliaments in checking the gov policies, actions , spending

what is judiciary
the system of courts that interprets and applies the law in the name of the state

elected members of parliament, vote and debate on laws, represent interest of wider public

legislative branch role and function
role = responsible for making laws, consists of elected representatives who debate propose and vote on legislation
function = legislative branch drafts, discusses, amends, and passes laws that govern the nation. It also has oversight functions, including reviewing the actions of the executive branch, approving budgets, and representing the interests of constituents.
Judicial Branch
role = interprets laws, resolves legal disputes, and administers justice.
function = hears cases, reviews laws for constitutionality, and delivers judgments, It resolves disputes between individuals, organizations, or the government.
collective responsibility
in a parliamentary system, the concept that all cabinet members agree on policy decisions and that all will be responsible for the results, if a member doesnt agree they can resign
