- Laws should protect individual rights
-Competition promotes excellence
-The individual is responsible for his or her own actions
-Individuals are unique
Collectivism
- The well being of the group is more important than individual rights
-Co operation is the best way to succeed
-The group is responsible for its members welfare.
-It is important to contribute to the group and to be like the group

- Believed that human nature is characerized by fear violence and dangerous self- interest
-people only care about themselves and hurt anyone who gets in their way
-has negative view towards human nature - believed that it is dangerous to allow people to be free
- believed that we needed security more than we need freedom
- wanted people to give up their freedom to one person who is responsible of everyones security (eg. president)
