Basic Role Shift Sequence (4)
- Tell where you and the other person are located
- Tell what you or the other person is doing
- Tell how object/liquid is passed between the people
- Describe the outcome
Element Classifers
Represent movements of “elements” such as air, smoke, water/liquid, rain, fire, and light.
S->5 and S->1
Instrument Classifiers
How people handle/manipulate an object. Used in Role shifting.
Locative Classifers
Tell the location of an object and/it’s movement. Often accompanied by facial expressions.
Semantic Classifiers
Describe where the person is located, where they moved, and/how they moved
SCL: 1. SCL: V
Body Classifier
Used to show how a person moves his/arms, shoulders, or head. To describe a person’s actions.
Body Part Classifiers (BPCLs)
Represent specific parts of the body in action.
Variation A
1.Tell where the other person (receiver) is.
2. Tell how you touched the other person
3. Use corresponding gestures ( role shift and reaction).
Variation B
- Tell where the other person (receiver) is
- Tell how you touched the other person
- Show receiver’s response (don’t rope shift) instead indicate the receiver turned/ looked at you. Receiver’s reaction.
Variation C
- Tell where the other person (receiver) is
- Tell how you touched the other person
- Show receiver’s change in position (no role shift)
Variation D
- Tell where the initiator is standing or how she approaches you
- Show how initiators touched you (while maintaining receiver’s poor of view)
- Indicate your reaction.
