Articles of Confederation
Articles that redefined the former colonies as states and loosely united them as a confederation or alliance under one governing authority.
Shay’s Rebellion
The lack of a centralized military power and readiness to respond to a violent uprising became the closing argument of the need for a strong central government.
Constitutional Convention
The meeting that formed the new Constitution
Virginia Plan
called for a three-branch system. The people would elect the lower house whose members, in turn, elect the members of the upper house.
Bicameral

New Jersey Plan
Assured states that their sovereignty through a national government with limited and defined powers. This plan also had no national court system and each state would have one vote in a legislative body.
Great Compromise
The more populated states believed they deserve a stronger voice in making national policy decisions. This compromise created the two-house Congress (House and Senate)

Confederal system
a loose gathering of sovereign states for a common purpose - was the very relationship defined under AOC
Article V
