Unit 13- Infection Control Flashcards
A2 Room
an isolation with an anteroom and negative air pressure ventilation that are used for patients in airborne precautions
Airborne Precautions
procedures used to prevent the spread of airborne pathogens
Airborne Transmission
method of spreading disease by breathing in tiny pathogens that remain suspended in the air for long periods of time
Anteroom
a small room just inside the entrance of an isolation room; usually has a sink and containers for trash disposal
Asepsis
without infection
Autoclave
machine that sterilizes articles
Biohazard
waste materials and laboratory specimens or materials, and their containers contaminated by body fluids; has the potential to transmit disease
Communicable Disease
disease caused by a pathogenic organism that can be transmitted from one person to another by direct or indirect contact
Contact Precautions
practices used to prevent the spread of disease by direct or indirect contact
Contact Transmission
spread of disease by direct or indirect contact from an infected person or contaminated object
Contaminated
unclean; impure; soiled with microbes
Dirty
anything that has been potentially exposed to pathogens
Disinfection
process of eliminating pathogens from equipment and instruments
Droplet Precautions
procedures used to prevent the spread of disease by droplets in the air
Exposure Incident
an occurrence during which there is possible personal contact with infectious material
