Unit 1.2 Kinematics Flashcards
What is a x-t graph?
Displacement-time graph
What does the gradient of a x-t graph represent?
The increase in displacement per second, so the gradient of a x-t graph is the velocity.
Describe the gradient of a x-t graph if it is a straight line.
Gradient is constant and so the velocity is constant.
What does an upward slope on a x-t graph represent?
An increase in x with time, so a movement in the positive x direction.
What does a downward slope on a x-t graph represent?
Moving in the negative direction.
What does a horizontal line represent on a x-t graph?
Stationary
Define mean speed.
distance travelled/ time taken
Define mean velocity.
displacement/ time taken
Define instantaneous acceleration.
It is the rate of change of velocity.
Define mean acceleration.
change in velocity/ time taken
Δv/ Δt
Give the units of acceleration.
ms⁻²
What does ‘rate of change’ mean?
Change per unit time
Give a second definition for acceleration.
Change in velocity per second
What is a v-t graph?
Velocity-time graphs
What 2 quantities can be found by a v-t graph?
- Acceleration
- Displacement
