What is population distribution?
The pattern of where people live
What is population density?
The number of people living in a given area.
How does employment oppurtunities affect population distribution?
People are more likely to work in an area where it is easier to find a place to work and earn a living.
How does climate affect population distribution?
Temperate climates are usually more favourable. There is a regular supply of water. It is favourable also for farming and survival. Ex The Sahara Desert, Antarctica.
How does relief affect population distribution?
If the land is flat it is more likely to be arable and fertile useful for farming and building infrastructure. If an area is too steep if is difficult to settle.
How does level of communication affect population distribution?
If an area has good communications, it means that it is easier to travel and commute or simply connect to certain things from where one is.
How does the availability of water affect population distribution?
Water is necessary for all activities in our daily lives such as cooking or washing clothes. Access to rivers and seas also provides oppurtunity for travel and trade.
Describe the global pattern of economic development.
There is an uneven distribution of economic development globally
HICs are generally located in the northern hemisphere
Countries such as The UK, France and Canada. Australia being in the southern hemisphere as a HIC does not follow this pattern
LICs are generally found in central Africa and Asia, within the tropics of cancer and capricorn. Haiti is the only LIC in Central America.
