Unit 1.1 - 1.5 Flashcards
Memorize measurements and terms
What is the Scientific Method?
A logical problem solving path to discovery
What does the Scientific Method consist of
- A question or problem
- A hypothesis
- Experimentation & Calculations that solve
What are the 3 domains of chemistry
Macroscopic, Microscopic & Symbolic
What is a Macroscopic Domain
Moisture in the air, icebergs, and the ocean represent water in the macroscopic domain.
Microscopic Domain
gas molecules are far apart and disorganized. solid water molecules are close together and organized, and liquid molecules are close together and disorganized
Symbolic Domain
g), (s), and (ℓ) symbolize its phases.
What is Matter
Anything that has mass and volume.
What is Mass?
Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object.
What is Weight
Weight is the amount of force that gravity exerts on an object.
Will an object have the same mass on earth as it does on the moon?
Yes, because mass and volume is not effected
Will an object have the same weight on earth as it does on the moon
No, because the gravitational force on earth is different than the moon.
What is Volume
Volume is the amount of space occupied by an object.
What is the Law of Conservation of Matter
During a chemical or physical change, matter cannot be created or destroyed
What is a Physical Change
Matter changes form but not chemical identity
Chemical Change
A chemical reaction that forms new products
