What are the 6 types of early years?
Day nurseries, registered childminders, nannies, preschools, wraparound childcare or nursery classes.
What ages do day nurseries cover?
Often from birth to five years old.
When do day nurseries typically operate?
All year round, Monday to Friday.
What is a registered childminder?
Somebody who is self-employed and works from their own home caring for children.
What times do childminders work?
They’re often very flexible but times will vary from one to another as they’re self-employed so determine their own hours.
What is a Nanny?
Somebody who is self-employed and works from the home of the children they care for.
What other responsibilities might a Nanny have?
Household responsibilities like cooking and cleaning.
When for pre-schools typically operate?
During term times. They’re normally quite flexible with hours.
What are the typical hours for a preschool?
They normally offer five morning and five afternoon sessions.
What is wraparound daycare?
Sometimes referred to as breakfast or afternoon club, it provides childcare outside of school hours.
What other option is there for wraparound daycare?
There’s also holiday clubs for outside of term time.
What are nursery classes?
These are childcare sessions often based within a school.
Why are nursery classes being located in a school a positive note?
Because they often provide a good introduction for children into a school/school setting.
When do nursery classes operate?
Normally 5 days a week during term time.
