Unit 1 - Topic 3 ๐ Flashcards
What happens in translation?
A mature transcript is translated into a polypeptide chain
Where does translation occur?
Ribosome in cytoplasm
What controls translation?
Start and stop codons
What is alternative RNA splicing?
Segments of the rna are expressed as introns or exons.
What is post translation modification?
Cutting the polypeptide chain.
What does mRNA do?
Carries a copy of DNA to the ribosome in the nucleus.
What does tRNA do?
Carries a specific amino acid to the ribosome during translation.
What is rRNA?
Proteins that form a ribosome.
RNA Is single stranded true or false?
True.
How is an individualโs phenotype determined?
By the proteins produced as a results of gene expression.
What is transcription?
Primary transcript undergoes RNA splicing , introns removed , exons joined together to make mature transcript
Transcription is when?
A section of DNA is copied to form primary transcript
What does transcription require?
Promoter ,RNA polymerase , free nucleotides
What happens to tRNA during translation?
It is folded due to complementary base pairing creating an anticodon triplet and an amino acid attachment site.
