When the people elect representatives to approve laws
Whats a federal government?
Powers that are divided between the central government and local (or state) governments
Whats an autocratic government?
Where one person has all the power and makes all decisions and its no laws involved
What is an Oligarchy?
Where few rulers control the government
Whats a presidential government?
Where the different branches are separate, but equal (voters elect lawmakers and executives)
What is a parliamentary government?
Where the leader of executive branch is chosen by legislator ( if prime minister loses support of legislator, he can be replaced)

He inspires the constitution and promotes separation of power, which led to checks and balances

No executive Branch to settle dispute, central government couldn’t afford taxes or raise army, regulate trade, and the articles took unanimous approval to regulate trade
What is the Shay’s Rebellion?
An uprising in Massachusetts who couldn’t pay their war debts (farmers who couldn’t pay taxes)
Whats the Declaration of Independence?
Written by Thomas Jefferson and restated the social contract theory. It listed Colonist’s grievances against Great Britain.
What are the details of the Great Compromise?
They called for a two-house legislature, representation in senate equal for all states (two senators each) and based House of Representatives on population
What are the details of the three-fifths compromise?
It counted 60% of states slave population for representation. And the result was that southern states got 1/3 more representatives than if enslaved people didnt count

Explains whats in the constitution

Too powerful central government, lack of bill rights, and included patrick henry

Powers that are giving congress its role as lawmaker for national governments

They’re powers granted to states by the 10th amendment

its 10 Amendments ratified by the state and was approved by congress in 1789
Whats the 1st amendment?
limits the freedom of speech; Establishment and free exercise clauses

Prohibits unreasonable searches or seizures and warrants without cause
Whats in the 5th amendment?
Says the government can take one land without “just compensation”; prohibits being tried twice for same crime; requires grand jury in capital for mostly death penalty cases
