Unit 1 Section 6: Equilibria And Redox Reactions Flashcards
State Le Chatelier’s principle.
If a dynamic equilibrium is disturbed by changing the conditions, the position of equilibrium moves to counteract the change
State the meaning of the term “catalyst” and explain how they work
A catalyst is a substance that increases reaction rate without being used up. They provide an alternate route for reaction that has lower activation energy
What effect does a catalyst have on time taken to reach equilibrium?
Increase
State the effect, if any, of a catalyst on the position of equilibrium.
None
State the effect of a decrease in temperature on yield in an exothermic reaction.
The forward reaction gives out heat. This means the position of equilibrium shifts to the right to oppose the decrease.
Give 2 features of a reaction at equilibrium.
The forward and reverse rates are the same
Concentrations of reactions and products remain the same
