Unit 1 Rates Of Reactions Flashcards
What four factors affect the rate of a chemical reaction?
There are four factors that affect the rate of a chemical reaction:
1. Temperature
2. Concentration
3. Surface area
4. The presence of a catalyst
How does temperature increase the rate of a reaction?
Increasing the temperature of a reaction mixture increases the energy of the particles, making them move faster. This results in more collisions, which produces a faster chemical reaction.
The higher the temperature…..
The faster the reaction
The lower the temperature…
The slower the reaction
The higher the concentration…
The faster the reaction
The lower the concentration…
The slower the reaction
Catalysts speed up the rate of a reaction but….
Are not used up in the reaction. They are used in industry to save energy and money because they allow reactions to take place at lower temperatures
