Activity Reinforcer
The reinforcement when the student gets to do the activity
Antecedent Conditions
Conditions that precede problem behavior.
Consequences
The events that follow the behavior and increase the likelihood it will occur.
Consumable Reinforcer
The kind of reinforcement that can be eaten by the student
Direct Assessment
Involves looking at actual samples of student work produced in our programs
Exchangeable Reinforcer
Reinforcement which is an item that can be traded for a primary reinforcer such as money, poker chips, or points for completing an assignment.
Function
The purpose a behavior serves.
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)
Relates to the behavior change strategies that are based on the data gathered during the FBA and are directly linked to the function of the behavior.
Function-Based Intervention
A process used to determine why a specific behavior is occurring
Indirect Assessment
Gathering evidence through means other than looking at actual samples of student work
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
A piece of American legislation that ensures students with a disability are provided with Free Appropriate Public Education that is tailored to their individual needs
Negative Reinforcement
Something you presumably did not like or want to do is avoided or taken away and the behavior that helped you avoid or escape that situation is increased.
Operant Behavior
A behavior which is learned and maintained by the consequences they produce and are assessed and treated like any other learned behavior.
Positive Reinforcement
You get something and the behavior that helped you get it increases.
Primary Reinforcer
Reinforcers that meet a basic biological need.
