Define photosynthesis :
Photosynthesis is the process of when plants make food in the presence of light energy, carbon dioxide and water.
Equation of photosynthesis :
carbon dioxide + water —sunlight and chlorophyll——> glucose + oxygen
Chemical equation :
6CO2 + 6H20 ——-sunlight and chlorophyll —-> C6H1206 + 602
Autotrophs :
Autotrophs are independent and make their own food.
What are the raw materials needed by the plants to make food?
From where do the plants obtain them?
Sunlight - Sun
Water - Soil
Carbon dioxide - Air
What are the products of photosynthesis?
What is the important product and what is the byproduct?
The products are oxygen and glucose. The main product is glucose and the byproduct is oxygen.
Where do plants get their energy?
Sunlight
Which part in the plant cell absorb the above energy?
Chloroplast
What is a photomicrograph?
A picture that you can see under the microscope.
What is the green pigment in the leaf called?
Chlorophyll
Waxy cuticle :
It is made of wax - waterproofing the leaf.
Upper epidermas :
. It is a thin and transparent which allows light to pass through.
. No chloroplast is present
Palisade mesophyll :
. Main region for photosynthesis
. Cells are tightly packed which allows it to trap chloroplast.
Spongy mesophyll :
.Cells are more irregular shape and loosely packed.
.It contains chloroplast but not as many in the palisade cells.
