Unit 1 Outcome 2 Flashcards
Nuclear Fusion
Process involved in formation of sun.
Produces light when two hydrogen atoms combine to form helium.
Solar nebula
Vast gas cloud that condensed to form the solar system
Solar energy
Energy that is emitted from the sun.
Emitted as visible light, infrared light and ultraviolet light.
Solar cycle
Periodic variation in solar activity caused magnetic field created by nuclear fusion.
One cycle lasts approximately 11 years.
Solar maximum
High amounts of solar activity
Solar minimum
Low amounts of solar activity
Sun spot
A dark region of the sun’s surface, caused by intense solar activity
More sun spots = more solar activity
Electromagnetic radiation
Energy emitted by the sun in the form of waves - a result of nuclear fusion
Wavelength
Frequency
Photon
Electromagnetic spectrum
The range of electromagnetic waves, arranged according to their wavelengths and frequencies.
