Unit 1 Membranes and Systems Flashcards
Serous Membrane
thin watery fluid that lines cavities to prevent friction
Mucous Membrane
slightly thicker fluid
Where are mucous membranes?
Nose, mouth and digestive track
Parietal Membrane
Lines outer wall of cavity
Visceral Membrane
Lines the surface of organs
Pleura
Membrane in lungs
Pericardium
Membrane in heart
Peritoneum
Membrane in abdopelvic region
Integumentary System
Skin and organs such as hair, nails and sweat glands that protect tissues and regulate body temperature
Skeletal System
Bones, ligaments and cartilage that provides framework, protect tissues and produce blood cells.
Muscular System
Muscles are a source of body heat and move body parts
Nervous System
Brain, nerves and spinal cord that allow for electrochemical signals to be sent to each other
Endocrine System
Glands secrete hormones that alter systems over a long period
Cardiovascular System
Heart, lungs, veins and arteries that pump blood which transports gasses, nutrients, hormones and waste.
Lymphatic System
Lymph nodes, thymus and spleen transports fluids from tissues into blood stream
