Unit 1 Matter Flashcards
How to learn science:
Mixture
a physical combination of two or more substances that are mixed together without forming new substances
Matter
anything that has mass, and takes up space
Physical Property
a characteristic of matter that can be observed and measured
Chemical Property
a characteristic that can only be observed when the type of matter changes
Conductivity
ability for energy, such as electricity and heat, to move through a material
Solubility
the maximum amount of a substance that can be dissolved by another substance
Volume
a measure of how much space an object takes up
Heterogeneous Mixture
a non uniform mixture
Homogeneous Mixture
a uniform mixture
Conservation of Mass
a physical law that states that matter is neither created nor destroyed during a physical or chemical change
Chemical Change
a change that produces new matter with different properties from the original matter
Physical Change
a change of matter in size, shape, or state that does not change the type of matter
Solution
a mixture of substances that are blended so completely that the mixture looks the same everywhere
Mass
the amount of material in an object
