How could you criticise the 4 functions of the family (Functionalist) in a Marxist perspective?
1) Educational - teaching the ruling class ideology to children so as they accept it as they grow.
2) Economic - the nuclear family acts as a “Unit of Consumption” by selling their labour for money only to spend that money on consumer goods (giving the money back to the bourgeoisie)
3) Sexual - when the breadwinner (husband) returns from work he can let out his frustrations through sex in preparation for work the next day.
4) Reproductive - the nuclear family creates the work force of tomorrow by having children.
What are the Marxist views of the family?
Marxists believe that the family exists in the interests of capitalism and that the nuclear family is the ideal tool for the exploitation of proletariats.
