Unit 1, List 1, Graphing. Belkis Babie Flashcards
Observation
An act or instance of noticing or perceiving and the acquisition of information from a primary source.
Data
A gathered body of facts.
Variable
Anything that can change and be measured.
Precision
How close measurements of the same item are to each other.
Accuracy
How close a measurement is to the true or accepted value.
Predict
A possible outcome of a scientific test based on logical reasoning about a particular scientific idea.
Infer
The process of drawing conclusions based on evidence and reasoning.
Independent Variable
A variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure.
Dependent Variable
What you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment.
Line graph
Line graphs visualize trends among dense data sets.
Bar graph
Used to compare the frequency of a category or characteristic with that of another category or characteristic.
Pie graph
A circle divided into sectors that represent the percentages of a population or a sample that belongs to different categories
Scatter plot
A scatter plot identifies a possible relationship between changes observed in two different sets of variables.
