Q

whats part of brain decline?

Q

whats happens to blood flow to the brain when you’re older?

A

blood flow decreases
maybe a result of brain cells&impairing mental functions - increases the risk of dementia
(physical+mental exercise slow down the process)

16
Q

whos more likely to have osteoarthritis?

A

overweight,
having multiple injuries in the same area
women are more likely to

17
Q

how does osteoarthritis happen?

A

OSTEOARTHRITIS IS CAUSED BY CARTILAGE BECOMING THIN.
CARTILAGE PROVIDES A CUSHION BETWEEN 2 BONES. AS THE BONES RUB AGAINST EACH OTHER, THE CARTILAGE RUBS AWAY AND BECOMES THIN. THIS CAN CAUSE PAIN AND SWELLING AT THE JOINT.

18
Q

why do energy requirements change when you’re old?

A

energy requirements change - person moves slower and is not physically active
means that energy requirements decrease like carbohydrates and things increase like protein and calcium
(protein - repair cells&tissues
calcium -bones strong

19
Q

why are older people more likely to get malnutrition?

A

because the absorption of foods in the bloodstream slows down

20
Q

what does an older person need to ensure to have sufficient amounts in vitamins and minerals?

A

CALCIUM – DAIRY – STRONG BONES AND TEETH
VITAMIN D – SUNLIGHT – HELPS ABSORB THE CALCIUM INTO THE BLOODSTREAM
VITAMIN C – GOOD IMMUNITY
IRON – GREEN LEAFY VEG – ENERGY LEVELS

21
Q

why do elderly people not eat enough fruit and vegetables?

A

expensive to buy
inability to eat or prepare it
not be able to go shop independently

22

why do elderly people not have enough water?
