Risk
Risk is the chance that a hazard will cause harm.
Laboratory
a room or building equipped for scientific experiments, research, or teaching, or for the manufacture of drugs or chemicals.
Hazard
A hazard is something that can cause harm, e.g. electricity, chemicals, working up a ladder, noise, a keyboard, a bully at school, stress
Apparatus
Equipment used for the purpose of conducting scientific experiments
Experiment
a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
Line diagram
A 2-D drawing used to represent apparatus in scientific drawings
Measuring
use of scientific equipment to ascertain the size, amount, or degree of something.
Meniscus
The curved upper surface of a liquid in a container
Data
The values recorded during a scientific experiment
Units
The scale on which measurements are recorded e.g. cm, mm, g, kg, minutes, seconds
Material
Anything that is made of matter or particles
Compound
Two or more chemical substances chemically joined together
Element
A chemical substance made up of only one type of atom ‘pure’
Symbol
Universally used notation of one or two letters to represent chemical substances
Molecule
Two or more atoms held together by strong chemical bond
