Identity
It is what a person is, they could be given an identity and they could choose their own.
Stereotype
A generalization about a group of people. It is created when people are unable/unwilling to get all of the information to make fair judgements.
Prejudice
An opinion that is preconceived and it is not based on actual reasoning or an actual experience. It is discrimination, violence, and in extreme cases genocide.
Discrimination
When a person judges someone on their prejudices and our stereotypes. They are treating them differently.
- create pressures to discourage people from living in a neighborhood
- Victimized by discrimination in employment, education, and social services
Sexism
When treating someone differently because of their gender.
-Paying a woman less than you would a man just because of their gender.

Top: Genocide
The act or intent to deliberately and systematically annihilate an entire people.
Biblical Times
- Before Christ when the early Jewish people (Hebrews) had experienced prosecution
- Seen as stubborn and resented
-Christianity: new Jewish sect since Jesus and disciples were Jewish (preaching judaism)
-Jewish state destroyed by Romans and they scattered
-after Crucification, Judaism and Christianity sometimes coexisted peacefully
-Conversion of Roman Empire made it so Christianity was the sole religion
-Jews seen as threat to Roman rulers
Treatment of Jews during Medieval Times
- Could not intermarry w/ Christians
-No high positions in gov - Could not appear as witness against Christians in court
-Fantasies of Jews in Northern Europe- had horns/tails
- ritual murders of Christians
- poisoning wells
- Crusader army looted and raped Jews
- Jews were blamed for the bubonic plague
Bubonic Plague and Scapegoating
The Jewish population had been blamed for the bubonic plague. Someone had to be blamed and because of the myths and stereotypes about Jews they chose them. They had also been dying but they were accused of poisoning the wells and spreading the disease.

- founder of 16th century Reformation
- Wrote the pamphlet The Jews and Their Lies
- claimed the jews thirsted for Christian blood
-marks transition from anti-Judaism to anti-Semitism

- Coined Anti-semitism
