What does growth mean?
Growth is changes in measurable qualities such as : height,weight and head circumference
What are the 3 principles of growth?
- Growth rates are not constant
- Different parts of the body grow at different rates
- Growth rates vary between children
What does development mean?
Development is the learning/acquiring new skills and capabilities such as walking and talking
What are the 4 principles of development?
- From head to toe
- From inside out
- In the same sequence but at different rates for different children
- Holistically ( all areas of development are dependant on each other )
What is the difference between growth and development?
Growth is the changes in height weight or size whereas development is the change to how we do things
What are gross motor skills?
gross motor-skills The group of motor skills (including walking, running, and throwing) that require large muscle groups to produce the major action, and require less precision than that exerted by small muscles.
What are fine motor skills?
Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, feet and toes. Specifically, single joint movements are fine motor movements and require fine motor skills. They involve smaller actions such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and blinking.
Why is using centile lines important to measure a child’s growth?
Centile lines are used to measure a child’s growth throughout their infant years. This is important in making sure the child is growing and reaching their average height.Also,looking to see if a child is growing abnormally.
