Foreign Policy
-goals and guidelines that shape conduct of a nation’s relations with other nations
Foreign Policy Choices
- isolationism: detachment from world affairs
- neutrality/nonalignment: refusing to take sides on an issue or dispute
- involvement/intervention: in the affairs of other nations

What is the function of an embassy?
to gather and report information about the host nation and represent its own government

Bilateral Aid
- Most FA consists of financial transactions between two countries
- May be in the form of grants (recipient doesn’t have to repay) or loans (usually to finance development programs)

FA loans that have conditions placed on them, such as buying goods produced in the donor country
Multilateral Aid
When FA is supported by many donor countries &is generally distributed by an international organization, such as the World Bank
Reconstruction Aid
EX: Marshall Plan to help rebuild Europe after WW2
