A slavery issue. There were 11 free and 11 slave states. Missouri and Maine are added. 12 all. No slavery past 36, 30
Compromise of 1850
California is admitted as a free state. Harsher and more effective fugitive slave law
Fugitive Slave Law
Compel states and local officials to capture and return runaway slaves
Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854
Repealed the Missouri Compromise. Popular Sovereignty is suggested by Stephen Douglas (Illinois)
Popular Sovereignty
The people of that territory decide what type of territory it is. (Free or Slave)
Bleeding Kansas
People rush to territories to control the slavery issue with popular sovereignty. Violence breaks out in 1855. Two separate constitutions are set up in Kansas
Fred Scott Decision
Slaves are not people and do not get to enjoy the rights of a white man. States the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional
John Browns Raid
He tries to arm the slaves and start a revolution at a federal armory in Harper’s Ferry, Virginia. He is stopped by Robert E. Lee and killed for treason against Virginia

Not upholding FSL, slaves rebel against owners, electing Lincoln

Occurred in April 12, 1861. Lincoln is inaugurated on March 4, 1861. Resupply edition going to Fort Sumter. Beauregard forces a surrender on April 14, 1861.
