Unit 1 - Cell Structure Flashcards
Define Ultrastructure
An organelle is a structure within a cell, that preforms a specific function. Together, all the organelles inside of a cell are known as its ultrastructure.
Ultrastructure of a Bacteria Cell
-Bacteria cell walls are not made of cellulose.
-They have no nucleus, instead they have plasmids and bacterial chromosomes.
Ultrastructure of a Fungal Cell
-Fungal cells share lots of similarities with plant cells, but they do not have chloroplasts, and their cell walls are not made of cellulose.
Define Nucleus
Controls cell activites, contains DNA.
Define Cytoplasm
Site of chemical reactions
Define Cell Membrane
Controls the entry and exit of materials
Define Ribosome
Site of protein synthesis
Define Mitochondria
Site of aerobic respiration
Define Cell Wall
Provides the cell with structure and support
Define chloroplast
Site of photosynthesis
Define vacuole
Contains cell sap, maintains cell shape.
Define bacterial chromosome
Controls cell activities, contains DNA.
Define Plasmid
Circular ring of genetic information.
