Unit 1 (building blocks) Flashcards
What are expressions?
Expressions are any combo of numbers and/or variables using any of the operations (+-•/)
You evaluate an expression by
finding the final value of an expression when all variable values are known
The distributive property
When a,b,c all represent real numbers then:
a(b+-c) = a(b) +- a(c)
2 or more algebraic expressions are equivalent if
they have the same value for every value of the substitution variable (no matter what you put in for x, the expressions come out with the same answer)
an agebraic term or a term is a
combo of numbers and variables using ONLY multiplication, division, and exponets. Terms are separated into expressions by addition or subtraction
Like terms are algebraic terms that..
contain the same variables raised to the same exponets
