What is white collar crime?
White collar crime involves non-violent crimes committed by people who are in positions of authority or power. They are committed by individuals in professional settings commonly for financial benefit.
What are examples of white collar crime?
Fraud, Tax evasion, Embezzlement, Insider trading
Who are the victims of white collar crime?
Tax payers, Employees, Consumers
Explain both corporate crime and professional crime
Corporate crime is crime committed by companies whereas professional crime is committed by professionals engaging in illegal acts.
Is white collar crime criminal deviant or both?
Both. This is because they break laws, criminal, but also go against the norms and standards of society.
What is moral crime?
Moral crime is any crime which goes against society’s moral code.
What are examples of Moral crimes?
Prostitution, underage drinking / smoking, acting intoxicated in public
Who are the victims of moral crime?
These crimes are often victimless, although they can cause the public annoyance or disturbance.
Who are the offenders of moral crimes?
The offenders can be anyone
What is state crime?
State crime is illegal activities committed by the government/state or with government/state support
What are examples of state crime?
Genoside, torture, imprisonment without trial, war crime, police brutality
Who are the victims of state crime?
People in other states, citizens, minority groups
Who are the offenders of state crime?
Politicians, police force, state officials, militias
What’s the level of public awareness surrounding state crime?
It depends on the media coverage and how well the state are able to conceal
Are state crimes deviant criminal or both?
They are deviant as they go against what is accepted but are almost always criminal. States can claim they aren’t criminal as they make the law
