What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that executes the instructions in a program.
What are the four functions of a computer?
A computer: a. Accepts data (Input) b. Processes data (Processing) c. Produces output (Output) d. Stores Results (Storage) Input - > Process - > Output | | | | \/ \/ Storage
What is hardware?
Any part of a computer that is physical and in the real world, such as the monitor, computer, or keyboard.
What is software?
Programs, or any instructions that tell the computer what to do.
What is data?
Data are the individual facts that make up code, such as strings, booleans. or intergers.
What is information?
Any data that has been processed into something usable by the user of the computer.
What does default mean?
They are the settings the computer comes with. If you don’t edit your settings in any way, your computer has the default settings.
What is an application?
Another name for a program, typically associated with phones as the abbreviation “app/s”.
What qualities make up a good computer?
Reliability, security, speed, and storage to name a view.
What are the four types of computer covered in class?
Personal computes, which are used in the home, with the subset of laptops which are portable.
Mainframes, which allow multiple people to work on the same data. They link all the computers in a building together.
