What are the driving license obligations?
- The licensee must hold the license while driving and show it to police officers on demand.
- The owner of the license is not allowed to entrust it to a person who does not have a driving license.
- It is not allowed for anyone to own more than one driving license of one type, nor use their license for illegal benefit.
- In case the driving license is lost, the Traffic Department has to be informed.
When should the driving license be renewed?
The driving license must be renewed no later than thirty days after the date of its expiry, if not renewed, the holder is not permitted to drive.
What is the validity of the driving license?
For Qataris, the validity of the driving license is 10 years, whilst for non-Qataris it is 5. For a public driving license, it is 1 year, and for a temporary driving license, it is 3 months.
What should you do when experiencing anger whilst driving?
- Remember that anyone can make mistakes!
- Keep calm and maintain a safe distance from other drivers.
- Drive cooperatively.
- Treat other drivers like how you would want to be treated.
What should you do when experiencing stress/fatigue whilst driving?
- Sleep well before driving.
- Avoid driving for long periods at the end of the day.
- Avoid/Stop driving if noticing signs of fatigue.
- Avoid eating fatty foods for snacks.
- Avoid excessive consumption of caffeine.
How does alcohol affect drivers?
Alcohol affects drivers by:
1. Slowing down their reaction time.
2. False assumptions of their speed.
3. Gives false confidence.
4. Increases the difficulty of multitasking.
5. Making the driver sleepy.
How can a driver reduce distracted driving?
- Avoid browsing on their phone whilst driving.
- Collect all loose items and place them far from the driver.
- Ask their passengers to keep quiet.
- Avoid tuning their radio whilst driving.
- Do not become preoccupied by things outside the road, e.g. ads.
What effects does using a mobile phone while driving have?
- May enter and exit lanes haphazardly.
- Can cause unstable driving speed.
- Can face difficulty in keeping track of distances.
- Incorrect estimations of distances.
What should you do if driving under the glare of the sun?
- Reduce speed.
- Pay attention to traffic motion.
- Put sunglasses on to reduce the glare.
What should you do to avoid vehicle sliding in the rain?
- Reduce the speed to less than 80km/h.
- Maintain safe distances from other drivers, and if possible, stay in the middle lane.
- Hold the steering wheel firmly.
- Reduce the speed gradually and only afterwards should you brake.
What should you do if driving during the rain?
- Use windscreen wipers for clearer vision.
- Reduce speed greatly.
- If the rain is heavy, stop the vehicle at the side of the road.
- Switch on the vehicle’s front lights.
What should you do if driving during fog?
- Use low headlights/ fog lights whilst driving.
- Use the foot brake gently and vehicle lights to indicate a presence on the road to other drivers.
- Ensure the high beam is not lit by mistake.
- Keep watch of the speedometer.
- Reduce speed if the road is not visible for more than 12 meters.
