What is culture?
The ideas, customs and social behaviour of a particular people or society.
What are norms?
What is considered to be normal behaviour.
What are values?
What a person feels is important to them. Helps dictate what is good or bad.
What are mores?
Stronger form of norms - behaviour that is seen as essential to maintaining decency.
What are beliefs?
Morals and ideas that come from each individual and influence how we behave.
What is a role?
How someone who occupies a particular status/situation is expected to act.
What is status?
The position that a person has in our society. This can affect how they behave and interact with others.
What is ascribed status?
The status you are born with.
What is achieved status?
Status which is the result of a person’s own efforts.
What is deviant behaviour?
When an individual breaks the rules and societal norms.
What is a subculture?
When an entire group behaves differently from cultural rules and customs.
What is dominant culture?
The main culture of a society, shared by the majority of people.
