Unit 1 Flashcards
What are the 7 types of engineers?
Civil, structural, mechanical, electronic, electrical, environmental & chemical
Describe the role of a Civil engineer.
Deals with infrastructure: roads, railways, dams, sewer & water systems, powerplants & bridges.
Involved in planning, construction, designing and overseeing.
Describe the role of a Structural engineer.
Deals with structures and buildings.
Involved in planning and researching about a structures properties & load to ensure its safety.
Describe the role of a Mechanical engineer.
Deals with anything that moves. From small components to large plants and refineries and machinery or vehicles.
Designs drive systems, and mechanical devices to complete specific jobs.
Describe the role of an Electronic engineer.
Designing electronic automatic control systems. Sensing circuits, programs for different functions, writing code.
Knowledge of complex control systems: Op Amps, MOSFETs, relays and microcontrollers.
Describe the role of an Electrical engineer.
Electrical systems, power generation & distribution and motor control. Design of electromechanical devices/machinery.
Describe the role of an Environmental engineer.
protecting all forms of life from pollution etc. eco friendly manufacturing & material options, low carbon technologies to reduce carbon footprint, adapt design to limit enviro harm.
Works on solutions to improve recycling, water/air quality, waste disposal to improve public health
Describe the role of a Chemical engineer.
altering chemical properties of materials to increase performance of the material.
Knowledge of how materials react under certain conditions such as weather.
