Unit 1 Flashcards
What is Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS) form?
A precise measure of an angle.
How do you convert DMS to Degree Decimal form?
Divide the minutes by 60, divide the seconds by 3600, then add them both to the whole degree number.
How do you convert Degree Decimal form to DMS?
Multiply the digits behind the decimal by 60 and exclude the decimal for minutes, then multiply the digits behind the decimal on minutes by 60 for seconds.
What is the radian measure of an angle?
Theta, circumference/radius, 2piR/R, 2pi, ~6.28
How do you convert from degrees to radians?
Multiply the degree by pi/180
How do you convert from radians to degrees?
Multiply the radian by 180/pi
What is a co-terminal angle?
An angle that shares the same spot on a circle but has a different measure. (e.g. 0 degrees and 360 degrees are co-terminal)
How do you find arc length?
Arc length (s) = radius (r) x theta (angle of the arc)
How do you calculate angular speed?
W = theta/time
How do you calculate linear speed?
v = r x W
How do you calculate the area of a sector of a circle?
A = 1/2 x r^2 x Theta
What are the measurements on the sides of a right triangle with the angles 45, 45, 90?
both legs are 1, the hypotenuse is root(2)
What is the Pythagorean identity involving Sin and Cos?
Sin^2theta + Cos^2theta = 1
What is the Pythagorean identity involving Tan and Sec?
Tan^2theta + 1 = Sec^2theta
What is the Pythagorean identity involving Cot and Csc?
1 + Cot^2theta = Csc^2theta
