Unit 1 Flashcards
Stated or implied coordinates a place that can be identified
Position
Position relative to another expressed in degrees as three numbers
Direction
Spacial separation between two points without regards to direction
Distance
Height of an aircraft above a reference plane (AGL & MSL)
Altitude
This term consist of hour of day and an ellapsed interval
Time
Direction in which the aircraft must be flown or is being flown this direction of travel required to reach destination
Course
Amount and direction an Aircraft is off course
Deviation
This is the effect wind has on the left/right track of an aircraft this is caused by Crosswinds
Drift
Speed movement over the ground
Ground speed
Direction which the aircraft points/heads at any instant it is expressed in angular units clockwise
Heading
What are the two types of heading
True heading and magnetic heading
* This is measured from the equator towards either polls
- East to west direction
- Measures north south
Latitude/parallel lines
- This is the angular distance of a place
- North-south direction
- Measures east-west of the prime meridian
Longitude/meridian lines
These lines are farthest apart from each other at the equator/widest distance at the equator
Longitude/meridian lines
This is the distance between two meridians
Departure
If latitude lines have the same name what do you do
Subtract
If latitude lines have contrary names what do you do
Add
If longitude lines have the same name what do you do
Subtract
