Unit 1 Flashcards
This system sends air pressure values to flight information
The Pitot-static system
This instrument is used to sense ram air pressure for airspeed indicators and has a built-in heating element to prevent icing
Pitot tubes
This instrument senses atmospheric, or static, pressure
Static Ports
______ are provided in the system plumbing at the lowest points and is used to remove moisture during system checks
Drains
This instrument works by measuring the difference between static pressure, captured through one or more static port(s), and ram air pressure, captured through a pitot. Measured by knots.
Airspeed indicators
This instrument displays altitude as feet above Mean Sea Level (MSL)
Barometric Altimeter
This instrument provides the aircraft true attitude above the terrain. Is not reliable over water, rough terrain, or high altitudes
Radar Altimeter
This instrument shows the rate at which the aircraft is gaining or losing altitude
Vertical Velocity Indicator
This instrument displays the aircraft’s attitude in relation to pitch and roll.
Attitude Director Indicator (ADI)
This instrument shows the aircraft’s direction of travel, called heading, relative to magnetic north
Magnetic Compass
This instrument is primarily used for navigation. Also includes a course deviator indicator, to show how far off the selected course the aircraft is
Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI)
This instrument combines multiple sources of data into a single, digital display
Multi-Function Display or Heads Down Display
