They have to identify
They use databases to ID for sure
Compare who/where the evidence came from
Finally to COURT what happens there?
Evidence gets presented to jury
They reconstruct the timeline and evidence to prove guilt
If they need they get warrants
Court happens more than once for crime cases
Whats the Biological Unit?
Deal with organic (alive) things
Some of the scientists in the unit is Molecular biologists,
Anthropologists (bones),Entomologist (insects), Biochemist (DNA/blood type) and more
Whats the Physical science unit
Deals with nonliving things
Some of the scientists in this unit is Chemist, Engineer,
Geologist, Physicist
What is the Document analysis unit?
Some of the scientists in this unit are Psychologist, Handwriting analyst (compares writing making letters size shape), Graphologists (psychologist that interpret personality based on HW), Linguist (language use), Etymology (studies origin of words), Chemist (ink/paper analysis),Computer analysts
What is the Photography unit?
The records the initial appearance of the crime scene by taking photographs. Also they can analyze pictures if they relate to the scene. Some of the scientist are Computer scientists, Photographers ,Graphic experts, and Videographers
What is the Firearms units
Military and Law enforcement trained analysts
What is the Toxicology unit
This unit is associated with medical examiner or the coroner’s office. Examines body fluids and organs for any drugs and poison
What is the Latent fingerprint unit
Processes and examines evidence for latent fingerprints
What is the voiceprint and computer analysis unit
Voice print analyses telephones, recorded messages that transform speech into voiceprints
Computer analysts focus on cyber-security, viruses, bots, IP address locations, and other hacking
What is the evidence collection unit
They Search, photograph, sketch, take notes, and bag and tag
What is Questioned evidence?
Any evidence at a crime scene that must prove what it is and where it came from
What is Known evidence
Evidence thats Obtained by warrant or from a manufacturer to help with ID and comparison
Is evidence that will tighten in on the suspect of the crime
What is class evidence?
Narrows it to a group
things such as Fibers / hair (has mitochondrial DNA) / paint / blood type / paper / ink
and anything there’s more than 1 of
