UNFINISHED Anatomy of the Shoulder and Elbow Flashcards
Where does the axillary artery begin? Which artery is it a continuation of?
Lateral border of 1st rib
Continuation of subclavian a.
Which arteries supply the shoulder and upper limb? Where do they begin and what part of the limb do they supply?
- Axillary - begins at lateral border of 1st rib, supplies shoulder
- Brachial: begins at inferior border of teres major, supplies arm
- Radial and Ulnar: begin at the distal part of the cubital fossa, supply forearm
Describe the general innervation of the shoulder and upper limb
Axillary nerve - shoulder
Musculocutaneous nerve - flexor muscles of arm
Radial nerve - extensors of forearm and arm
Median nerve - flexor muscles of forearm
Ulnar nerve - medial forearm and hand muscles
What actions can the trapezius perform at the scapula?
Elevation, depression and retraction
What is the action of the latissimus dorsi at the shoulder? Where do the lats insert?
Adduction and internal rotation
- Intertubercular groove of humerus
What are the three parts of the deltoid and what actions does each part produce?
Anterior (clavicular) part: flexion and internal rotation of the arm,
Middle (acromial part): abduction of the arm beyond the initial 15°
Posterior (spinal part): extension and external rotation of the arm
