The role and significance of the UNFCCC
A
- The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was set up in 1992.
- Established the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference to allow nations to come together and find ways to reduce human-driven climate change.
- The Marrakash Partnership for Global Climate Action established at Marrakash Summit 2019 recognises the role of non-state actors like: city govts, investors and businesses.
- The secretariat provided detailed research and monitor various strategies and the extent of their success.

Effectiveness of the UNFCCC
A
- 197 states have signed, giving the IGO international legitmacy.
- Major challenge = balancing the interests of climate change against the different economic strengths on countries - places the most responsibility on developed states.

Role and significance of the IPCC
A
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (1998) - provides detailed research on CC, dominated by both the developed and developing worlds to balance scientific opinion that’s unconnected to particular needs and priorities of state.
- 2018 = warned that global temperature was to rise by 3% instead of the 1.5% that states agreed to work on in Paris 2015.
- Reports suggested that immediate global investment was necessary - spending $2.5B GDP to transform society and economy to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.
