Men aged 18-25 spending 6 months planting forests, mending hedges and digging drainage ditches on farms
What was life like in the RAD?
Had to wear uniforms, live in camps and were payed in ‘pocket money’
What did the RAD help with?
Dropping the number of unemployed people
What did the government ‘not count’ in order to drop the number of unemployed citizens
Didn’t count women who didn’t work to have a family, part time people were counted as full time workers, Jews didn’t count
What did they do to Jews for employment?
They sacked Jews so Germans could have jobs
What does Rearment mean?
When a country re-builds its armed forces
What did Rearment mean for Germany?
Germany became a military country. They built tanks, battle ships, fighter planes and guns which made more jobs for working Germans, more business and money
What happened to conscription after Germany became a ‘military country’?
Conscription was for men aged 18-25 and they were made to join the army for 2 years. The armed forces grew from100,000 to 1,400,000
Who was the only party to get rid of unemployment in 5-6 years?
The Nazis
What did the Nazi party want to do?
Build up agriculture
What did the Nazis order in 1933?
Hospitals, schools and Autobhans to be built to link towns and cities. (This made more jobs and less unemployment)
