Labor force
The total number of people who are either employed or actively seeking employment.
Labor force participation rate
The percentage of the working-age population that is in the labor force.
Employment rate
The percentage of the working-age population that is employed.
Unemployment rate
The percentage of the labor force that is unemployed and actively seeking employment.
Natural rate of unemployment
The unemployment rate at which there is no cyclical unemployment, only frictional and structural unemployment.
Cyclical unemployment
Unemployment caused by economic downturns or recessions.
Frictional unemployment
Temporary unemployment experienced by individuals between jobs.
Structural unemployment
Unemployment caused by a mismatch between the skills of workers and the requirements of available jobs.
Efficiency wage hypothesis
The theory that paying higher wages can increase worker productivity and reduce turnover, leading to lower labor costs in the long run.
Minimum Wage Laws
Government-mandated minimum wages set above the equilibrium wage rate to ensure workers receive a certain level of compensation.
