- leader delegates responsibility and encourages participants
- subordinates have got more power over their own working lives

- this theory focuses on how the individual leader behaves and looks at the extent to which they have concern for people compared to the concern for production
describe what the tannenbaum schmidt continuum is
- leadership model based on a spectrum between two extremes of manager centred and subordinate centred approaches
- recognises that in reality leaders are unlikely to be at either extreme but somewhere along the spectrum
- according to this model , as the continuum moves from left to right , managers become less authoritarian and give more freedom to their subordinates
