Understanding human behaviour Flashcards
Steps in the social scientific process of inquiry
- identify the problem or question.
- Develop the hypothesis.
- Gather the data.
- Interpret and analyze the data.
- Draw the conclusions.
Identify the problem or question
– Provides a reason for the research
– Suggests a way to do the research
Develop the hypothesis
– Provides a possible answer to the question in the form of a statement
– Forms the basis of the research
Gather the data
– Collect information needed to test the hypothesis
– Uses a research method to collect information needed to test the hypothesis
Interpret and analyze the data
– Organizes the information so that it means something
Draw conclusions
• determines whether or not the hypothesis…
– Has been confirmed (if the evidence supports the hypothesis)
– Must be rejected (if the evidence does not support the hypothesis)
– Must be changed (if the evidence supports an alternate hypothesis)
• summarizes the observations and analysis of the results and relate these to the question being examined
